The Shepherd’s Market, a client-choice food pantry, is the largest program sponsored by Opening Doors and is an official partnering agency of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

The Shepherd’s Market is open Mondays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. The pantry serves any family in need of food assistance and living in south Baton Rouge zip codes 70808, 70809, 70810, or 70820.

A photo ID and a proof of residence are required in order to open a file for a family. After a file has been established, each family may shop at the pantry twice a month to select the food they desire in a grocery-store type setting at 230 Renee Drive, in the Family Life Center at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Most of the 400+ families that are served each month receive free supplemental food that lasts at least one week.

The Shepherd’s Market is 100% volunteer-run and strives to serve each family with dignity and respect. Volunteers of all ages are welcome at any pantry shift to help with shoppers or to restock, as well as the second and fourth Friday morning of each month for assistance with Food Bank deliveries.
